Christopher P. Godek, MD of the Personal Enhancement Center discusses the various factors that can lead to optimal breast augmentation outcomes.
Toms River, NJ — A common concern for many women considering breast augmentation is that implants will create a noticeably fake appearance for the breasts following the operation, states Christopher P. Godek, a board certified plastic surgeon in Monmouth County, NJ. While this may be true for some women prospective patients see around town or in the media, Dr. Godek explains that by selecting the proper breast implants based on a number of criterion unique to the individual, exceptionally natural looking results can often be achieved.
When choosing the right breast implants, the New Jersey plastic surgeon says comprehensively understanding all of one’s options – including type, shape, and size – is critical to attaining optimal outcomes. “Not only does this help create realistic expectations for the end result,” he writes in a recent blog post, “it also enables me to more effectively achieve each patient’s breast enhancement goals based on their unique needs and desires.”
Regarding the types of breast implants available, Dr. Godek notes that patients have two basic options: saline and silicone. Each has its own unique advantages for qualified candidates, he says, though most women select silicone gel-filled implants due to their tendency to be more natural looking and feeling than saline. Furthermore, he adds that the likelihood of rippling in silicone implants is often reduced, which can be especially beneficial for patients who have thin skin and/or a slender frame.
Once the type of implant has been selected, Dr. Godek explains that the ideal shape (i.e. round or anatomical) and size can then be determined based on careful breast measurements and the individual’s postoperative desires. Shape will often be dictated by the degree of upper pole fullness the patient wants, though in regard to size he says the focus should be driven away from CCs and more towards what is best for the patient’s body type. “‘Bigger’ is not necessarily ‘better’ for every individual,” he notes.
At his practice, Dr. Godek also utilizes state-of-the-art VECTRA® 3D imaging, which he says can be an excellent tool to help patients visualize how they may look postoperatively with various implant shapes and sizes. “While no technology can predict outcomes with one hundred percent accuracy,” he adds, “VECTRA® 3D imaging can help establish realistic expectations for the breast augmentation procedure.”
Ultimately, Dr. Godek explains that regardless of the implant type, shape, and size, the final key to achieving natural looking results is to ensure the procedure is performed by a board certified plastic surgeon who has extensive experience and excellent, demonstrable outcomes. “By viewing before and after photos of previous breast augmentation patients, you can ensure your prospective plastic surgeon has been able to achieve optimal outcomes with various implant options, including the one’s you may be considering.”
